Initial Thoughts:
With all the stressful things going on in the world today it seems like people are getting less and less sleep. In the past few months I’ve had several friends tell me they’re having trouble with insomnia and I can’t think of another time in the past where this has happened with such frequency. For me, when I have trouble sleeping, vaping some indica usually gets the job done. For some people, however, indica may actually keep them sedentary, but too alert to sleep. This must be very frustrating and I feel for my sleep deprived amigos, so what other options exist?
One potential solution is this “Sleep 1:1” THC/CBD tincture from DC MOTA and currently available at DC dispensary Cheeba (among other storefronts that carry DC MOTA products). Not only does it have 400mg of THC and 400mg of CBD, it also has 200mg of melatonin, the hormone that your brain releases in response to darkness, to help you get to sleep. I think with everyone looking at their smart phones before bed, and reading about all the horrors in the world, their natural melatonin production may be low. If that’s the case then adding the naturally derived compound to your nighttime rituals, along with some THC and CBD, might do the trick.
Therefore, I decided to conduct a test and see if this tincture could help me and my aforementioned sleepless friends get a good night’s rest. Here’s the resulting review:
Appearance:
A robust opaque, black bottle with a graduated dropper and nearly translucent, slightly golden oil.
Flavor:
A slight cannabis flavor in oil form, but no alcohol taste and no burning sensation.
Lineage:
Highly pure and concentrated distillate with THC and CBD from a variety of strains. Since it’s distillate, there’s not going to be an entourage effect from terpenes that might lean one way or another.
Effects:
A half dropper full of tincture under the tongue that equated to 0.5mL containing 10mg THC, 10mg CBD, and 5mg melatonin about an hour before bedtime was decided upon. From brief research the online consensus seemed to be that the maximum dose of melatonin for adults is about 10mg. In this case, the idea was that 5mg should be a good starting point given my lack of exposure to melatonin prior.
The effects began somewhere around 30 to 40 minutes afterwards, but the most interesting thing was that the onset of any buzz was indescribable because sleep happened so quickly there was no memory of a “high”. In the morning, I felt supremely well-rested and remarkably little soreness. Others had quite similar experiences with some remembering a gentle fuzzy feeling (the high coming on) before being “zonked out” or “out cold”.
Conclusion:
I’m not a doctor so I’m limited in terms of being able to recommend something to help solve a medical problem. But, for me (and from the reports of others), there’s now a new tool in my cabinet to help with those sleepless, overstimulated nights. To pick up some DC MOTA tincture for yourself and see if it represents an ideal solution for your needs, just head to Cheeba DC (or your closest DC MOTA carrying dispensary) today. Don’t forget to tell them you heard about it on Toker’s Guide!
